AddictionsCenters.org grew out of a family’s experience. Not a case study, not a statistic — people we love, and the long nights, waiting rooms, and phone calls that come with loving someone in pain.
We have lived all three of the struggles this site is built around: a suicide attempt, substance use, and the slow, non-linear, deeply human work of recovery. We have been the family bearing witness to a loved one’s struggle, and we have been the person in the middle of it. We know the fear, the shame, and the not-knowing-where-to-turn — and we know the ongoing struggle, and the quiet miracle of recovery.
When you are in it, finding real help is overwhelming. The information is scattered, the language is clinical, and every hour matters. We built this so the next person — and the next family — finds help faster than we did.
That belief shapes everything here: crisis support is always one tap away and never behind anything; the hardest pages — suicide and eating disorders — carry no advertising, ever; and every fact is drawn from trusted public-health authorities like SAMHSA, the NIH, NEDA, and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, with our health content currently in review by a licensed clinician. You can read exactly how we do this in our editorial standards.
If you are struggling right now, please know: you are not alone, recovery is real, and you can talk to someone this minute. Call or text 988, anytime.
